Loving son of the late William and Lolita McCarthy. Devoted brother of the late John (Jessie) McCarthy, Ann (Vincent) O'Brien and Susan (Roger) Ryan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the C. Mertz and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 911 Englewood Ave. Tuesday, August 20th from 4-8 PM. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, 1085 Englewood Ave. on Wednesday, August 21st at 9:30 AM. Please assemble at church. Father McCarthy graduated from St Joseph's Collegiate Institute '51. Father McCarthy was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) serving in Korea. After military service he entered the Columban Missionary Order, completing his religious studies in Ireland. Following graduation and priestly ordination, he served as a Columban missionary with assignments in the Fiji Islands, Brazil, Peru and Mexico. Along the way, his love for sports and ice cream was a common language in all countries. In lieu of flowers, donations to Columbans on the Lake Fund (Attention: Sister Corona Colleary). Our condolences to the Mc Carthy family on the passing of Fr Vincent who has held a special place in our heart and memory since he first arrived in Kilteely, Co Limerick Ireland around 1963 to discover his Irish cousins. My parents enjoyed his company and conversation and talked about him regularly. May perpetual light shine upon his soul and may he rest in peace. His was a life that was truly well lived and an example to all. The Breen Family Cratloe, Co Clare
