Suddenly. Beloved husband of Nina (nee Gelia) Bender. Devoted father of Cheri (Andrew) Wenner, Dawn (Joseph) DiNardo, Melissa Bender (Christopher Milleville) and Angela (Matthew) Case. Loving grandfather of Amanda, Amberlyn, Mason, Dante and Clara. The family will receive friends at the C. Mertz and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 911 Englewood Ave. Tuesday, November 11th from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM for Memorial Visitations where Funeral Services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory to Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership ([email protected]). Bill was a teacher in the Buffalo School District for 32 years and an avid hunter and fisherman. Please share condolences at www.mertzfh.com

Dear Nina,
I just saw the notice on the Buffalo Schools website. I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a fun person to be around. My father loved him so much and had so many wonderful stories about their adventures with Norman and Sons construction . Oh how he loved to talk about how the three of them laughed together. To Bill's family,
My deepest condolences on his passing. We started our careers at Grover in the 70' s and finished other at Hutch.
Bill was a great guy, good friend and well respected teacher and colleague. It has been many years since we saw each other but the memories we shared are good ones. May your happy memories of and with him soften his loss to all.
Be at peace my friend.
