William GRADY Obituary

GRADY - William R.
Age 89, passed away on September 17th, 2022 from natural causes. Hus-band of the late Carol Lee F. Grady (married 63 years). He leaves behind three sons, Scott W. Grady of Boston, MA, Christopher M. Grady of Denver, CO, Timothy P. Grady of Holly Springs, NC, and their spouses, Jody Schiavo, Janet Grady (her sons Clay and Jack Woodall) and Ashley Grady. He is also survived by his two beautiful grandchildren born of Tim and Ashley, Rachel Lee (8) and Harper Renee (4). They brought him great joy. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, William (Bill) was the son of Millicent Mckenzie and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, by loving parents William F. Grady and Fern Hindman. Bill was a veteran of the US Air Force. He trained at the Niagara Falls Air Force base and later served honorably and bravely as an Air Force fireman during the Korean War. Firefighting and Life-Safety was his passion, and he served proudly as a volunteer fireman with the Hutchinson Hose Fire Dept. of Williamsville for over 44 years. Bill was a dedicated public servant in the Town of Amherst, serving as a Highway Inspector, Building Inspector, and then admirably as Amherst's first Fire Inspector. Upon retirement, Bill completed a life-long desire by earning his pilot's license. His dedication to community service, in addition to firefighting, also included many years with the SS. Peter and Paul Jolly Boys, and service as a volunteer at Camp Good Days providing respite for children with cancer. Many may also know him from his private Fire Inspections business and 11 years of employment with Amigone Funeral Home, Inc., where he brought comfort to many during a difficult time. Always ready with a joke, and a story to share, his good nature, sense of humor, and warm smile will be sadly missed. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 15th, from 10 AM-12 PM at the (Amherst Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5200 Sheridan Dr., where a Celebration of Bill's Life will follow at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Erie County SPCA yourspca.org/donatenow/ or Camp Good Days and Special Times www.campgooddays.org. Arrangements by AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC. (716) 836-6500. Share condolences at www.AMIGONE.com

Tom and I will always remember when Bill and Carol visited Boston, and the many card games and board games we played. We always had a blast with lots of laughter! Bill and Carol will be sorely missed.
