Dorothy "June" Vogels

Dorothy "June" Vogels was born on June 8, 1924, at a home in northern Dallas County Missouri. She departed this life on September 30, 2023, peacefully at home at the age of 99 years, three months, and 22 days old. June was the daughter of A.B. and Gona Sweaney of Buffalo, MO.
June graduated from Windyville School in 1941 and attended Southwest Missouri State obtaining a certificate in teaching. She taught school for a couple of years in one room schoolhouses before following her husband who was stationed in Charleston, SC, then sent overseas. While in Charleston she enjoyed working in a boutique. After returning home to Buffalo Mo Jim Hawkins hired her and her 47-year career in banking began, selling ration stamps for sugar, flour, coffee, and gas. June was very committed and worked hard finding her way up the ladder to Bank President. She was a cover story in the Springfield Business Journal of successful women. She enjoyed her flowers and had quite a green thumb. She was a great cook and made the best shrimp sauce ever. June was active in church as long as she was able to be and had professed her faith in Jesus and was baptized when a young girl.
June married Lee Maddux in March of 1942 until his death in 1975, there were no children to their union. On June l, 1989, she married again, ''the love of her life" Chuck Vogels. Soon after their marriage she retired from Obannon Bank. June and Chuck shared 25 years together traveling and enjoying her new family before his death in 2014. June loved her family and her role as mother and grandmother. There couldn't have been a more loving and caring mother. June helped and inspired many people during her lifetime particularly women and was a friend to countless. June "Nana" will be missed by her family and friends.
June was preceded in death by her parents. husband Lee Maddux, husband Charles "Chuck" Vogels, one son Russell Vogels, one brother Orlif, 'Bud' and her sister-in-law Ann Sweaney. She is survived by Daughter Rev. Jennifer Long and Husband Tim of Buffalo Mo. Grandchildren: Meagan Long Hicks and husband Lee of Elkland. Virginia Vogels Yewell and husband Josh of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Jessica Long Dotson and husband Craig of KC, Sarah Hedges and husband Jamie, of Nairobi, Africa; Kristopher Little, of Overland Park, Kansas; Kristina Long of Kansas City; Matthew Long and wife
Cara of Sevierville, Tennessee, 22 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren, and many family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 in the Faith Christan Church 315 N Pine in Buffalo shared space with Buffalo United Methodist with Dr. Jeff Wallace, Pastor Tim Case, and Pastor Rex Warren officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Faith Christian Church or New Hope Cemetery.
