Becky Jo Williams

1962 - 2024

INDEPENDENCE – Becky Jo (Postel) Williams, 61, of Vinton, Iowa, found peace from her battle with cancer. She left us on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, surrounded by many loving family members.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. Burial will be held at the Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home.
The Family would like everyone attending the visitation and funeral to wear their Hawkeye gear in memory of Becky.
Becky was born on August 19, 1962, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Billy L. and Jean D. (Olsen) Postel. She was a 1981 graduate of Independence High School and went on to the Young's College of Hair Design in Waterloo. She received her degree and license in 1984 and worked as a hairdresser in Vinton, for a short time. In 1992, Becky started to work as a substitute cook at the Vinton Community School. She loved working with children, and soon took a position as a head cook at Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School.
In 1993, Becky married Darrell Williams, and they made their home in Vinton and raised their son, Justin together. They attended many classic car cruises throughout Iowa and enjoyed their many trips Galena, Ill., and they often went camping with family and friends.
Becky became known as one of the best cooks in town and often volunteered to help in the kitchen whenever someone needed help. She often baked sugar cookies, which became famous among her family and friends. She loved making confetti eggs and enjoyed "smashing" them with family and friends.
Becky enjoyed many things, but her favorites were cheering on Justin during his wrestling matches (where she was often the loudest person in the room) and spoiling her grandchildren.
Those left behind to remember her are her husband, Darrell Williams; a son, Justin (Josi) Williams, DeForest, Wis.; two grandchildren; a step-grandchild; her siblings: Mary Jean (Carl) Eddy, Independence, Pat (Larry) Hunziker, Shellsburg, Kenny (Robin) Postel, Independence, Brenda Freeland, Hudson, and Wendy (Rick) Schoenfield, Independence; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Kathy Postel, both of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Jean Postel; three brothers; Bill, Mike, and Richard Postel; and a brother-in-law, Mike Freeland.
