Deb Dutler Obituary

WINTHROP – Deb Sue Dutler, 72, of Winthrop, Iowa, died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 1, and for one hour before the service on Tuesday at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop with Revered Vicki Engelmann officiating.

Deb Sue Hamer was born October 16, 1951, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Bud and Gen (Johnson) Hamer. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School and went on to further her education at Iowa State University. Deb finished her schooling, student teaching at the University of Iowa. She moved to Winthrop in July of 1973 with Don. On August 26, 1973, she was united into marriage to Donald Dutler at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children: Dee and Dan.
Deb was an educator at heart, beginning with teaching preschool out of the Bowden's house, transferring it to the Fellowship Hall, and to the East Buchanan Community School. She was asked to teach 4th Grade at Independence and finished her teaching career teaching the talented and gifted program. Deb was a dedicated member of the Relay For Life Iowa, the American Cancer Society Daffodils program, Church of Christ United, and organizer of the picnic in the park in Winthrop. Deb was a strong woman, and on more than one occasion being referred to as Wonder Woman. Throughout her life she faced many obstacles, but didn't let them stand in her way, living her life to its fullest. Deb enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, fishing, and helping others.
Deb is survived by her husband Don of Winthrop; two children: Dee (Todd) Lange of Holly Springs, North Carolina and Dan (Stephanie) Dutler of Winthrop; Four granddaughters: Brenna and Kelsey Lange, and Avery and Saddie Dutler; a brother, Rod (Diane) Hamer of Cedar Falls; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Klein of Cedar Rapids, and Lorna (Ray) Uehle of Danbury, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Gen Hamer; and brother-in-law, Jim Klein.
