WINTHROP – Eileen B. Higgins-Long, 94, of Winthrop, Iowa, died Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Lexington Estate in Independence, Iowa.
Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Church of Christ United in Winthrop.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Church of Christ United in Winthrop with Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating.
Interment: Wilson Cemetery, rural Independence, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in her name to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Eileen Belle Workman was born February 24, 1931, in rural Walker, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Verna (Wright) Workman. She received her education from the Independence Community Schools, graduating in the class of 1949. Eileen was united in marriage to Richard Eugene Higgins on June 5, 1949, at the Baptist parsonage in Independence. They were blessed with four children, Richard, Roger, Ronda, and Rosie. Eileen worked at the Mental Health Hospital in Independence as a resident treatment worker. The family lived in Independence for 14 years and then moved to Winthrop in 1963. Richard died suddenly on February 28, 1986. In 1991 Eileen married Alva Long in Independence. They lived in Winthrop until Al passed away in 1996. Eileen continued living in Winthrop until moving to Independence in 2021.
Eileen was a member of the Church of Christ United in Winthrop. She enjoyed playing scrabble, reading, going to the casino and spending time with friends and family.
Eileen is survived by her three Children: Richard E. (Janet) Higgins, Jr. of Mount Vernon, Ronda Higgins Harrington of Winthrop, and Rosie (David) Higgins Barker of Winthrop; 13 Grandchildren; several Great Grandchildren; and many Great Great Grandchildren.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: Richard Higgins and Al Long; son, Roger Higgins; brother, Archie Workman; sister, Florence Ives; grandson, Bobby Higgins; and granddaughter, Natalie.
