Gary Fangman Obituary

INDEPENDENCE – Gary Daniel Fangman was born on Dec. 29, 1954, at Peoples' Memorial Hospital in Independence, the son of Daniel and LuCean Schmit Fangman. His early elementary years of education were at the Monti Consolidated School and he graduated high school with the East Buchanan class of 1973.
Gary was united in marriage to Sheila Dilts on March 26, 1977, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They resided in Texas for a short time before moving north of Independence, where they have lived since. Gary farmed in many areas of Buchanan County. After his wife, his greatest love in life was farming and taking great care of the land. Gary enjoyed participating in many sports, such as volleyball, basketball, walleyball, and softball. Some of the numerous softball teams that he played on include: Monti, Wee Willey's, Craft Cochran, and Shagnasty's. A beautiful day on the water in his pontoon created many fond memories for his family and friends.
At the age of 58 years, Gary entered into his eternal rest on Friday, May 3, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, following a sudden illness.
Preceding him in death were his father, Daniel; his brother, Paul; and brother-in-law Dennie Rickels.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila, of Independence; mother, LuCean, of Masonville; ten brothers and sisters: Marge (Bob) Bosco of Wheaton, Ill.; Roger (Sue) Fangman of Rowley; Liz (Dave ) Ster of Center Point; Barb (Dennie) Sullivan of Winthrop; Mark (Tina) Fangman of Independence; Deb (Nick) Crawford of Winthrop; Phil (Threasa) Fangman of Masonville; Doug Fangman of Masonville; Cathy Banks of Masonville; and Greg (Christine) Fangman of Independence; twenty four nieces and nephews, fourteen great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, at St. Patrick's Church in Monti with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Monti. Sharon Bainbridge will be officiating and Teresa Horak and St. Patrick's Choir will be providing the music. Casketbearers will be: Neal Mahoney, Larry Mahoney, Pat Mahoney, Gerald Fangman, Mike Fangman, David Fangman, Rick Fangman, Donny Fangman, Bill Offerman, and Kevin Offerman. Friends call for visitation from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Monti Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established at Bank Iowa for the East Buchanan FFA and the East Buchanan Athletic Fund.
Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Winthrop is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.fawcettsfuneralhome.com under obituaries.
