Gavin N "Grayson”" Simonson

WINTHROP – Gavin N. "Grayson" Simonson, 25, of Winthrop, Iowa passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday, July 12, 2025, near Winthrop.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at the Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory in Winthrop. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Gavin was born on December 18, 1999, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Marjorie Simonson. He grew up in Independence, Iowa, and attended the Independence Community Schools. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and participated in Cheerleading. While in school Grayson started working at the Speede Shop in Winthrop. In 2018, he graduated from high school and continued working.
Gavin/Grayson was a very free spirited, tender soul with a very unique sense of style, personality, wit, humor and charm. Always trying to save an animal or insect (unless it was a spider).
Once you met Gavin/Grayson you were sure to build everlasting personal memories.
If you were fortunate enough to receive a hug from him it will live with you forever.
In 2021, he moved to Blue Springs, Missouri, with his close friend Megan. He took great pride in managing Casey's General Store. While living in Missouri he loved the weather and just being outdoors, especially while the cherry blossoms were in bloom.
In late 2023, Grayson moved back to Winthrop and returned to work at the Speede Shop. He also worked part time at Sparky's Place in Winthrop.
He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Simonson, Independence; his siblings, Haylee (Russell Ciesielski) Barth, Independence, and Christopher Simonson, Constantine, Michigan; his grandmother, Lois Butters, Independence; his aunts: Melissa Simonson-Keating, Independence, April (Adam) Butters Oelwein, Iowa, Shawn Ferch Waterloo Iowa, Dawn (Larry) Miller, Rowley Iowa, Autum (Martin) Close, Independence, and Mark (Dana) Forrester, Cedar Falls; his cousins: Jadyn Simonson, Kyle Keating, Karma Butters, Emma Butters, Amber Wroe, Britney Albers, Alissa Toms, and Michael Toms; a close family friend, Robert Kitner; and his three beloved cats: Hecate, Rascal, and Atlas.
He was proceeded in death by his grandfather, Butch Butters; and uncle, Arvin Ferch Jr.
