I really can't believe that I will not be seeing your grin again on this earth. You have been a most beautiful friend and colleague. In my darkest years with the loss of Amanda you and Sara were always there reminding me to "turn left" on my way home. You truly gave of yourself to those you touched...

Kind, funny, loving - proud to be his friend and blessed to work with him at Annie Wright for 6 years, such formative years as the school blossomed under his leadership. So much love for his incredible family.

I remember John as a high school student who worked for my husband in his men´s clothing store in Independence IA in the early 1960´s. I remember that smile and his sense of humor. I´m sure he has touched many lives and will leave many memories with all those who were privileged to know him.

John and I worked together as Social Venture Partner Fast Pitch mentors and I learned so much from him. He spoke about Sara and his family with such pride and had an immense amount of kindness, determination, and empathy. He will be missed greatly.

I am sorry to hear this. John was CEO at St. Joseph's Hospital when I arrived there to direct an outpatient psychology program. He was an excellent leader and I always enjoyed my conversations with him. Kathy Hamilton

What an inspiring life. That we would all be so loved & our lives so well lived. My deepest sympathy for your great loss. I did not know this great man, but because of Mr. Long's obituary, I now know about the organizations he supports. Thank you.

I've known Johnny for about 5 yrs. I was travel coordinator for casa alitas. He was an airport escort. He truly was an incredible, selfless, humble, caring, honest, considerate, loving human being. Johnny sat among the poorest of the poorest. Always helping asylum seekers continue to their next destination. He had a powerful impact on all who crossed his path. To his family my sincere condolences. You were all so lucky to call him your husband, dad and grandpa. To the rest of us our best friend in so many ways.

As a nurse at St. Joes, I found Mr. Long to be open and warm, listening to concerns of frontline staff. Later, as a chaplain, I enjoyed his response to the Mission. The staff in the Emergency department got a daily visit as he walked through there from his parking spot. He left quite an example for lifelong service. Blessings on his family.

I am saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family. John was a truly inspirational leader who brought people together with his intelligence, smile and humor. My fondest memories of working in health care are of John donning the headgear imitating Carnac the Magnificent(Johnny Carson) at full staff functions was an example of his humor and playfulness shedding the cloak of the stereotypical corporate leader. A great man and a life well lived
