INDEPENDENCE – Larry J. Krogmann, 52, of Independence, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center – West Campus in Independence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, at St. John's Catholic Church with the Very Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. Albert's Cemetery, Lamont, Iowa. Visitation was held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday November 8, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence.
Larry was born on November 1, 1972, in Independence, the son of James N. and Marian E. (Recker) Krogmann. He grew up in rural Lamont, and graduated from Starmont High School in 1992. Larry loved to work. He had managed to save enough during high school that he purchased an acreage in Masonville after graduating.
Larry went to work at Lentz Construction and helped build houses for over eight years. In 2000, Larry was involved in a car accident that left him paralyzed for the rest of his life. His accident did not stop him from continuing to live his life to the fullest. He spent several years working for Spahn and Rose in Independence, and later for many years at Sears in Waterloo, Iowa.
On June 1, 2006, Larry married Amanda Swatek, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. They made their home on Larry's acreage. Together they had four children and were later divorced in 2014.
He is survived by his children: Quentin Krogmann, Iowa City, Iowa, Jaxon, Aubrey, and Gavin Krogmann all of Independence; his siblings: Jeanne (Doug) Lentz, Aurora, Iowa, Janice Krogmann, Meza, Arizona, Diane (Randy) Koch, Independence, Joan (Jim) Finnegan, Independence, Connie (Ronald) Fish, Shellsburg, Iowa, Julie Henke, Strawberry Point, Iowa, James John (Shannon) Krogmann, Lamont, Lori (Chad) Postel, Independence, Martin (Bonnie) Krogmann, Dundee, Iowa, and Gary (Heather) Krogmann, Winthrop, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, James and Marian Krogmann; and three brothers: Dennis, Charles, and James David Krogmann.
