Sharon Schmitt Obituary
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Winthrop, with Very Reverend David Beckmann officiating.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, at the Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home in Winthrop, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
Inurnment: St. John Catholic Cemetery, Independence.
Sherry was born on September 24, 1947, at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Richard Alvie and Marguerite Elizabeth (Ortner) Schmitt. She graduated from Central Community School District, Elkader, in 1965. Sherry worked as a cook at Woolworth's in Cedar Rapids. She will be remembered for her generous heart and thoughtful spirit. She had a passion for crafting, particularly the intricate art of crocheting and cross-stitching. The act of giving, often through her handmade creations, was a heartfelt expression of her kind soul. Sherry was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Winthrop.
Sherry is survived by her sister, Diane (Don) Bails of Norway Iowa; two brothers: Larry Schmitt of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Jim Schmitt of Independence, Iowa; two sisters-in-law: Terri Schmitt of Olin, Iowa and Jari Schmitt of Winthrop, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents; four siblings: Daniel, Vincent, Andrew, and baby Schmitt; nephew Joshua Schmitt; and two sisters-in-law: Tari Schmitt and MaryAnne Schmitt.
