I was very sorry to see that Don had passed and found myself thinking of him at his birthday. I looked for him over the years and we never had a chance to reconnect. We spent a wonderful summer together as we worked together at a camp and explored the many wonders of the Vermont woods in our free time. I saw his slide show of his bike trip at least 20 times- his great adventure and it sounds as if he took another one with his son. I know its been years since his death, but I send my condolences none the less. I remember his parents and sister well - he adored you all. Family was important to him and I Remember your house on the lake with fond memories. I jumped from a tall cliff into a pond because he made me brave and he taught me so much that summer. It was a very long time ago but it was a summer Ill never forget and Im
A better person for having known him. My condolences to all of his family.

I just saw the news. I am sorry for your loss! As a Springfield Classmate '72-'73, Don called me "Togus". His enthusiasm for life always captured my attention, and he taught me to seek adventure everyday - in whatever capacity, and to do and attend to things that were worthwhile and to fully enjoy what you could.

We don't know why. We only know he was called home. Don was a classmate throughout high school, and though I cannot say I knew him well, I did know him as an exemplary student and great person. Don was way too astute to join the ranks of confirmed dedicated gear heads like myself. Still, talk would often turn to cars, as I guess is not uncommon in adolescent males. He had kind words for my ragged looking power pack '57 BelAir. And yes Don, it would take your old man's 2 bbl 389 Catalina. 'Till later...

I can not believe this very sad news of Don's death. Don and I had wonderful adventures together. He taught me the joy of learning new things, exploring new places and the appreciation of nature(and peanutbutter cups). Don will always be in my heart. My thoughts are with you, Rita, Dean, Dari and family.

Don and I have managed to stay in contact for all these years and share some great memories with each other. I too am an avid hiker but only dreamed of doing some of the things he accomplished. He certainly had a full life although it was cut way too short. I will miss him. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

I had Don as a teacher at CCV when I took both A+P I+II with him. I always said he was a bit like Forrest Gump with his slew of "been there, done that" stories. Hardly a day goes by that I am not reminded of something I took away from those classes. I hope that knowing he shared his talents and love of teaching with so many is a comfort to you in this time of sorrow.

Rest In Piece Mr Maloney. You will be forever missed. You were not only an amazing math teacher, you were a great man and a wonderful client! I will always remember having you sitting in my chair at school! Building the labyrinth out in back of the school will be a memory I fondly cherish in my heart. It was not only one of the last moments that stands out in my mind with you in it but also our good friend Cody Skinner!!! It was a great time and I'm glad I got the chance to experience it! Your adventurous stories will be remembered by all....forever in my heart Maloney?!!!!

Like many others, Mr. Maloney was my sophomore Math Teacher at NCUHS. I can say with certainty that his stories of adventures to the Andes,as well as the other stories that he had to offer, will be sorely missed. Geometry without them, would have never of been the same. It is saddening to hear that he has passed away, and I wish to extend my condolences to his family.
