DOROTHY PETERSON Obituary

DOROTHY DEVINE PETERSON - SOUTH BURLINGTON - Dorothy Peterson passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care. She was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Montpelier, the daughter of Grace (Thayer) and Thomas Devine. She attended school in Waterbury and graduated from Waterbury High School in 1948. After high school, she worked as a secretary at National Life Insurance Co. Dorothy married Lyle Peterson on Aug. 23, 1952, and moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y., in 1954. They returned to Vermont in 1956, and resided in South Burlington until her passing. She is survived by sons, Dan Peterson and wife, Diane, of Montpelier, and David Peterson of Williston; daughter, Shawn Thayer and husband, Dale, of Milton; her beloved grandchildren, David Peterson and wife, Lindsay, of Barre, Drew Peterson of Montpelier, Robby Thayer of Burlington, Lee Thayer of Essex, and Sarah Peterson of Nashua, N.H.; great-granddaughter, Lucy Peterson; sister-in-law, Alice Devine of Burlington; and brother and sister-in-law, Garth and Clara Peterson of South Burlington. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Devine of Waterbury Center, and Raymond Devine of Burlington; and two daughters-in-law, Mary Ellen McCarthy Peterson, and Cindy Petersen Peterson. Dorothy spent most of her life as a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her many friends. She was most happy when surrounded by her loving family. As per Dorothy's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Burial and memorial services will be held in the spring at the family's discretion. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Dorothy's passing. My heart goes out to Lyle as I lost my husband three years ago. It is a painful time in his life as it is for the rest of the family.
