Edna Furr Obituary

Edna Niemann Furr

Peacham and St. Johnsbury - Edna Niemann Furr, 94, of Peacham and St. Johnsbury, died peacefully at home on Monday, March 5, 2018, surrounded by family.

Edna Maxine Niemann was born April 2, 1923 in Huron, South Dakota, to Herbert C. and Faye Stroud Niemann. She graduated from Sioux Falls High School in 1941. She then attended Nettleton Business College and was employed by Area Engineer, Sioux Falls Air Base, where she met the love of her life, Robert Furr.

On April 29, 1944 she and Bob were married in New Haven, Connecticut, where he was stationed in the Army Air Corps. The couple settled in Sioux Falls. Bob worked as an inventor at IBM, which led their family to leave Sioux Falls and move to Poughkeepsie, New York and eventually settle in Burlington, Vermont.

They raised six children and established an amazing set of memories, stories, travel tales and lifelong friends.

In 1980, they moved into a historic home in the Village of Peacham, the home that would become their main residence for the remainder of their lives.

Edna is survived by her six children: Richard Furr (Sally Beck), Susan Diaferia (Dominick Diaferia), Kathlyn Furr (Norm Anderson), Mary Beth Furr, Michael Furr, and Patrick Furr (Jutta Mayer-Furr). She is also survived by her grandchildren Nikki Diaferia Incorvaia (Nunzio Incorvaia), Jamie Diaferia, Doug Robie, Jesse Robie, Gillian Remick (Jesse Remick), and Ann Guest; as well as five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews Pam, Steve, Michelle, Joyce and Kurt.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Furr; grandsons Adam Guest, Patrick Furr, and Robert Furr; son-in-law Greg Guest; and sister Marilyn Bartel.

A memorial service at the Peacham Village Cemetery will take place in June.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Peacham Library, 656 Bailey-Hazen Road, Peacham, VT 05862 or to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice, 161 Sherman Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819 (marked "For Hospice").

Edna has been such a wonderful friend to my grandmother Fran over the years. I was about 8 the first summer they decided to drive from Florida to Vermont together after losing their two Bobs. I'll miss our summer trips to Peacham to catch up in person after months of phone calls. She will be so missed- sending lots of love from the Fowler/Dragiff clan.
