FREDERICK GRIFFITHS Obituary

FREDERICK S. GRIFFITHS, SR. SOUTH BURLINGTON - Frederick S. Griffiths, Sr., 81, of South Burlington, formerly of Burlington and Haines City, Fla., died suddenly following a heart attack on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2010 in Fletcher Allen Health Care. He was born in Essex on Sept. 7, 1929, the son of Emerson and Laura (Plant) Griffiths. On June 26, 1948, Fred married Marion T. Fortin in Colchester. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy. He had been a fireman with the City of Burlington and owned and operated Griffiths Electric for many years. He enjoyed traveling, taking several trips across country. He spent many summers at camp in Colchester, barbequing and boating and spending time with his family. Fred is survived by his wife, Marion; six children and their spouses, Richard C. and Sharon Griffiths of Rocklin, Calif., Stephen G. and Jennifer Griffiths of Essex, David J. Griffiths of Milton, Linda M. and Stephen Bergeron of Colchester, Daniel J. and Kathy Griffiths of Colchester, and Frederick S. Griffiths, Jr. of Burlington; 16 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews in Ohio; and his loving dog, Travis. He is also survived by his sister, Corinne Longe of Williston. He was predeceased by his parents; a granddaughter, Carrie Ann Griffiths; sisters, Frederica Perrier, Eileen Poirier, Leona Wright, and Ida Mae Griffiths; and brother-in-law and sister-inlaw, Richard Fortin and Marie Fortin of Ohio. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington. A prayer service will held on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. in the Ready Funeral Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, So. Burlington, VT 05403. To send online condolences, please visit www.readyfuneral.com
