George Lavigne Obituary

George Noel Lavigne

Age: 72

George Noel Lavigne, a lifelong Vermonter, died on February 16, 2016 in Burlington, VT after a protracted battle with T-cell lymphoma and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. He was 72 years old.

George is survived by his wife Kathryn, his son Kevin Lavigne and wife Diana, his daughter Melanie Laquerre and husband Scott, and his daughter Christine Laforrest and husband Stephane; his grandchildren Jonah Lavigne, Madison Laquerre, and Aaron Laquerre; and his sister Aline Lahouiller and husband John; sister-in-law Marybeth Morey and husband Dennis, and sister-in-law Jackie Merrick. He is preceded in death by his brother Conrad Lavigne.

George was born on December 15, 1943 in Burlington VT to Emmanuel and Laurette Lavigne who predeceased him. George graduated from Rice High School in 1961. He married Kathryn Marzewski in 1966 and the couple eventually settled in Colchester. After serving his country in the National Guard, George embarked on a long and successful career as Plant Manager at Plastic Monofil in Milton, VT, and the couple raised their three children with the same compassion, hard work, and love of life and family that they both strongly believed in. George's family remembers him as a typical Vermonter who honored the land and loved the lake. A life-long tinkerer, George enjoyed RC planes, fast cars, and NASCAR naps. He treasured the company of his friends, his family, and most especially he cherished his grandchildren. Throughout his battle with cancer, his special moments with them gave him the courage to keep fighting and to maintain a positive outlook.

Visiting hours for George will be at the Ready Funeral Home, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road in Burlington from 4-7 pm on Friday, February 19, 2016. A funeral mass is scheduled for February 20 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Co-Cathedral, Father Tim Sullivan will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute (http://www.dana-farber.org/How-to-Help.aspx), St. Jude's Shrine (http://www.stjudeshrine.org/) or to the family in care of Kevin Lavigne for a memorial bench in George's honor. Arrangements are in the care of the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington, VT 05401.

I first put my resume on line for the first time and you saw it and called me for an interview and you told me that my resume was short and right to the point and he wanted to hire me. Thank you George for hiring me. I loved working for you. You were a great boss. My Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. You will be missed.

I married in and felt so lucky to be swept up in the swirl of Lavigne banter and fun when I got to be around for family get-togethers. George was a huge part of the that, such a kind and funny man. I think of him fondly and send my love to Kathy, Kevin, Mel, Chrissy, my diana, Jonah and the many, many family members who will miss him so much. RIP gentleman George.
