JAMES PARADISO Obituary

JAMES "RATSIE" PARADISO WATKIN GLEN, N.Y. - James "Ratsie" Paradiso, 75, died at home surrounded by family on Sept. 30, 2011. A lifelong resident of Watkins Glen, N.Y., he received a degree in electrical engineering from Alfred College before life took him in another direction. In 1963 he assumed responsibility for the family restaurant after his father fell ill. A successful businessman, he operated Paradiso's Restaurant for 34 years, catering to locals, tourists, and the occasional race car driver. Jim is survived by his children, Greg (Cathy) Paradiso of Parkton, Md., Anne (Charles Baah) Paradiso and Julia (John Davis) Paradiso of Burlington, Vt., and Olivia Paradiso of Watkins Glen. "Papa" had ten grandchildren, Caitlin, Angelo, Anna, Gianni, Gabriel, Juliana, Sam, Eva, Theo, and Sofia - and likely will be remembered as a jokester, somewhat eccentric, and probably a bit grumpy. At his request there will be no funeral or service. Family and friends are invited to a life celebration at the former location of Paradiso's Restaurant in Watkins Glen, N.Y. (now Bleachers), from 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct., 6, 2011. To view complete obituary please go to www.RoyceChedzoy.com

Shot many large tournaments (Joss NE) and leagues (APA/Stanton/bar leagues) with Ratsie, awesome talent, great 14-1 and 9-ball shooter! You will be missed, my friend. I had been away so many years and only learned of his passing in 2019. I have only fond memories of James. Very quiet, always a smile and a generous personality. We attended many of the same pocket billiards competitions in Syracuse, Scranton, Manhattan, leagues near Ithaca and other events. We sharks tend to swim in the same circles ; )) I know youre flying with those angels, my friend. Be at peace.

To My Friend, Jim and his family:
If one has to have an obituary, yours certainly was the one to have. Just simply lovely with a lot of class and certainly - "it is you".
What a journey, from knowing you when I was "much" younger, to being with you and the guys - playing pool and then having the pure pleasure of being there for you when you needed us.
Your smile and kindness always made my heart smile. Thank you Jim for giving me a chance to be a part of your life.
I miss you.
My love to you and your wonderful family.
Until we meet again, my friend.

It was my GREATEST pleasure being there for Jim this past year. Unfortunately, I was let go as one of his care providers right before he passed but memories with Jim will never leave my mind. He was so nice to me. He was one of the greatest people I have ever met. I have learned to value much more in life than I did before I met him. I wished I could have been there for him at the end but he knew I loved him and he knew I didn't leave him. My sympathies to Bill Paradiso. I know he talked about you alot and was so proud you were walking again. Keep it up for him! R.I.P Jim and THANK YOU from the bottom of my big heart. And thank you for making my want to teach Kindergarten more than I wanted to. Hearing you tell me I would be a great teacher melted my heart. You melted my heart alot. Until I see you again, R.I.P. I will miss you everyday.
