Jeremy Siegrest-Jones Obituary

Jeremy Siegrest-Jones

Age: 67 • South Burlington

Jeremy Siegrest-Jones age 67, of South Burlington, Vt was taken from the life he loved on Thursday, September 8, 2016 due to Multiple Systems Atrophy, a rare neuromuscular condition. He lived for more than 4 years under the care of the staff at Burlington Health and Rehab before his death. Born on May 31, 1949, he grew up in both VT and MA, and earned a BA from the University of Vermont.

His loss will be felt most keenly by his wife of 39 years, Mari of So Burlington, their daughter Emily S.J. White, 27 (Adam White) of Grand Isle, and their son Elliott, 23 of So Burlington. Jerry was fortunate to have loving sisters in his life: Aurelie Jones-Goodwin of Massachusetts, Jennifer Campion (Bill) of Rhode Island, Meredith Jones (Blair Bigelow) of Massachusetts, and Rosey Lawson of Massachusetts. He also leaves a step brother, David Jones of Vt. He was pre-deceased by his father and mother, Clayton and Helen Jones of Waterbury, Vt.

Cousin Paula Baker (Wayne) of New York called him her hero. Jerry's nieces and nephews always held a special place in his heart.

Jerry's sweet, easy nature, his generosity and sense of humor put people at ease. He was easy to love.

Jerry's work life was as diverse as his talents. He started out as a cabby in Boston, created and led a rock band that played in Boston and he was one of the pioneers at VT Public Television, producing and directing many television programs including the first Auction and served as its Production Manager. He left television to start a successful retail store, VT Army/Navy, with his wife, Mari. After 15 years at the helm of their own store, Jerry moved on to work at Kids Town, Country Home Products, where he created and worked as the Store Manager, and VT Toy & Hobby. Outside of working hours, he wrote non-fiction pieces and created large HO scale railroad displays. He loved nature, the outdoors, camping and being at home.

Jerry has requested that his ashes be scattered at his hometown Train Station in Waterbury, Vt. He and Uncle Eddy visited the beloved site every day when he was a boy. He embraced a love of trains from that time that lasted throughout his lifetime.

Jerry will be furthering the research efforts at the Mayo Clinic into Multiple Systems Atrophy.

A celebration of his life will be held at his home at 1 South Beach Rd in So Burlington beginning at 11:00 am on Sunday, September 18, 2016. Please join us in remembering a man who gently lit up our lives with a ready laugh and happy times. His good company will be remembered.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to everyone Jerry has blessed with his presence, hugs, and gentle influence. In 1980 Jerry was the Production Manager at (then) Vermont ETV and hired me on as the graphic designer, a job I held, and enjoyed, for almost 31 years -- and it was Mari who told me about the job opening. These two dear people made a profound difference in the trajectory of my life and will always have a very special place in my heart.

I worked with Jerry at Vermont Toy and Hobby and he was one the sweetest, gentlest, most kind people I have ever met. I will forever cherish the long talks we had about trains and his infamous pirate voice. My deepest sympathies to his family in this hard time.

Dear Mari:
Margaret and I offer our sincere condolences to you, Emily, Elliott and family, our prayers are with you. His positive attitude was remarkable these past few years. Margaret and I will never forget trying to set up our first tent, Jerry was strolling by our house and saw us struggling, over he came and set us straight, such a friendly guy. So sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry was such a great man and was so much fun to work with at VTH. We used to joke all the time. Our particular favorite joke was how he was going to be such a crazy old man that he would be waving a cane sword at kids who got on his lawn, to the point I actually got him one haha.
He was the best and I wish I was able to make it next week. Thoughts and well wishes to his family.

Mari - I was so sorry to read about Jeremy in today'
s paper. I know it has been a long, difficult road for both of you and your family. Although I never had the chance to know Jerry very well he was obviously well loved.

Our chats at BHR meant a lot to me over the 15 months that Bob was there. I always looked forward to a chance to talk with you when I visited Bob.

My condolences to you and your family.

Mari,
It has been many years since first meeting you and Jerry in Milton at the store. Jerry was a big influence on my love of all things surplus as a kid. Then I was able to work with you both at the new store when I was older. Great times for sure and I'll never forget Jerry's kindness, patience and fun spirit. Thoughts are with you and your family~

I am so sorry for your loss. I was lucky enough to work with Jerry at Vermont Public Television, and also he taught me a lot about trains, though he was far, far more expert than I. Even now, it is hard to think of him without smiling. A remarkable man.
