MARK LAMPHIER Obituary

MARK LAMPHIER - BURLINGTON - Mark Lamphier passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care. Mark David Lamphier was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Sept. 18, 1943, the son of Jeanette (Warner) and Omer Lamphier. He grew up and was educated in Monroe, Ohio. Mark started playing the trombone professionally at the age of 16 and had been doing it ever since, until his illness. He traveled throughout the United States and part of Europe, playing and entertaining with many great bands and musicians starting with the Bourbon Street Five in Dayton, Ohio, Gene Mayo, Function Junction Five in Chicago, Your Fathers Mustache, Village Stompers, and Al Hirt. He also had the pleasure of playing with Wild Bill Davidson, Gene Krupa, and Woody Allen. Mark started his own band, The Muskat Jazz Band, at the Innisbrook Golf and Country Club in Florida. He came to Burlington with the Salt City Six in 1974, when Sally told her friend she wanted to meet that trombone player; they were married in 1975, and have been for the past 38 years. He was lucky enough to play with the best musicians in the area, especially with Nick Aloi, Dr. Randy Miller, Tom Stanziola, Al D'lano, and many others. He also played tuba with the Onion River Jazz Band. He played locally at the Holiday Inn, The Tiffany Pub, The Radisson, Valcour Lodge, and The Naked Turtle, and hundreds of weddings, private parties, and funerals. Mark was also in sales with VT Breakopen and Best Bingo with good friend, Don Borque. Mark was a member of many area clubs, including the Eagles and Elks. Irish eyes are smiling now that Walt Sweeney, Charlie Ryan, Jim McEnrue and Mark are together again! Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Sally; his son and best friend, Marc; favorite granddaughter, Laney; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Lamphier; brother, Tim Lamphier and wife, Nancy; sister, Marianne and husband, Bob Tranter; sister, Ellen and husband, Glen Lindenfeld; sister, Linda and husband, Joe Uebel; sister, Sally and husband, Tim Luzader; uncle, Maurice Warner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by four children from previous marriages, Debra, Michael, Kathy, and Joanna; as well as many wonderful friends including, Jan and Bob Kaufman, Nancy and Tony Stevens, Gail and Bobby Beauvais, and Ed Broderick. A celebration in his memory will be held at Halvorson's on Church Street at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014. The Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.

There's some videos of Mark on this channel. An early influence and a helluva player. He let me sit at the Naked Turtle around '05, which was nice because my grandmother got to see me play w/ a jazz band before she died.

We loved Mark for his unwavering friendship with my parents Barbara and Harvey King- Kings Kove Restaurant. They both loved Mark's rendition of Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World". Thanks Sally for sharing Mark with us on the day of my dads funeral. Mark sang my dads favorite song. As all would agree, there could be no better send off for anyone. Mark, you will be missed by many!
