MATTHEW RANDY Obituary

MATTHEW P. RANDY JERICHO - Matthew Peter Randy, 32, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. on Aug. 25, 1977, son of Jeannette (Dalfonzo) Randy and the late Harry Randy. Matt graduated from Chazy Central Rural School and the University of Rochester (class of 2001) with a Bachelor of Arts in Medieval History. Matthew married Casey McMains on Aug. 22, 2005, in Louisville, Ky. Matt spent his life sharing his knowledge, experience, and humor with others. Regardless of the demands on his time, he always found a way to make the day better for everyone around him. Whether it be helping a customer get a Vermont Teddy Bear to a loved one at the last minute, or teaching someone a new game with passion and enthusiasm, Matt was always positive and wanted things to be positive for those he touched. Matt encouraged his friends and family to excel, and did all he could to support their goals, however lofty. He was a blacksmith, a painter, a glass-blower. He crafted a suit of chain mail, had his own line of distinctive glassware, and created a measuring device now used by tabletop gamers around the world. He was a builder, an artist, a teacher and a storyteller. He will be missed by his family and the many friends he made through out the country. He is survived by his loving wife, Casey McMains of Jericho; his mother, Jeannette (Dalfonzo) Randy of Williston; his brother, Michael Randy of Winooski; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Catherine and William McMains of Jericho; many aunts, uncles and cousins; countless friends across the globe; his three cats, Nimue, Fergus, Mowgli; and his dog, Viktor Pendrake. He was also predeceased by Helen Gregg, whom he adopted as his Grand- mother. There will be no visiting hours or memorial services held. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Matthew's memory can be made to the Vermont Chapter-American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), 150 Dorset Street, Suite 245-192, South Burlington, VT 05403. Arrangements are by John D. Workman, A. W. Rich Funeral Home - Essex Chapel, 57 Main Street, Essex Jct., VT 05452. My condolences to Casey and Matt's family.
I am very saddened by Matt's passing, and hope that memories of him will sustain his loved ones and friends during this time.
I know for me, that the fun he and I had playing games and chatting when he lived in Louisville will be remembered. Matt, wherever you find yourself, may the sun always rise and may the wind always be at your back.

Casey, Mike and family,

I hope you are able to find comfort in the knowledge that Matt is greatly loved and missed by his "extended" family. He was a good example, a "good guy" many of us aspired to emulate. You have my deepest sympathies during this difficult time.

I only met Matt recently at the Privateer Press Invitational, and was lucky enough to play a game with him. I always enjoyed his posts and insights within the Privateer Forums. He was a great person and someone I am proud to call a friend. He left us all too soon.

My deepest condolences to family and friends.

I worked with Matt Randy back in the day at VT Teddy Bear Company. We sat near each other and always had the best time. I loved his sense of humor and his dedication to his job. We just got along so well. I'm happy to have read that he married Casey - I know how much he loved her as he spoke of her often. I will miss Matt and will cherish the wall hooks he made for me as a blacksmith at the Maritime Museum. I was sad when he left for KY for the Arms Museum but knew that getting a job in his field would be quite a feat around here. I hope Matt had as happy and fulfilled a life as I saw from the outside. I just adored him and am so very sorry for your loss - all of you. He was such a kind and decent and fun man.

Matt, my friend, you will be sorely missed. A good soul has left us and a bright spark has gone out. We are the better for having known you. We are the emptier for having lost you. But we will not forget you.

Casey, my heart goes out to you. I
will cherish my ‘Matt moments’ from
here at work and from your art shows.

God Bless you and your family.

My deepest condolences go out to Casey, Mike and the rest of Matt's family. His loss has effected me deeply and I will always cherish the memories I have of our, too brief, times spent together. Matt, you weren't just one of the good ones, you were one of the best.

I only knew Matt briefly, but it was long enough to learn what a great person he was and how much his passing will affect so many people.

Deepest condolences to his family on the loss of a loved one. Nothing I write here can make the pain less, but know that you're in the thoughts of many in this difficult time.

The world is a darker place with the loss of Matt. His cheer, enthusiasm and good nature were always the highlights of my times with him. He always had a kind word to say, and a moment to share with those around him. My heart aches at his absence, and I know that his presence will be keenly missed at all future gatherings.

Jan, I am so sorry for your loss. I know Matthew was a shining light in your life and have many fond memories of you sharing happy stories about his interests and the fun you had with him and his brother. I especially remember the whimisical flying pig he hung for you in the office here. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
