MILDRED CROSS EDSON "MILLIE" NADEAU

MILDRED NADEAU Obituary

MILDRED "MILLIE" CROSS EDSON NADEAU - COLCHESTER - Mildred "Millie" Cross Edson Nadeau, 97, went home to the Lord on Sept. 6, 2012, in the loving care of the Green Mountain Nursing Home employees. Millie loved life, her family, friends and her dog, Charlie, who decided to go on ahead this summer so he'd be there to greet her and welcome her "home." She retired from Fletcher Allen Health Care in 1986, where she was a switchboard supervisor; she moved to sunny Florida with her then husband, Roger Nadeau, on the same day. Her many interests included shopping, gardening and doll collecting. She liked and collected pretty things from yard sales and loved to putter around her home. Her sense of humor lasted her lifetime. She raised her three sons in Winooski with her late husband, J. Harrison Edson. Millie is survived by her sons and their wives, James and Sharon Edson of Underhill, and Thomas and Ann Marie Edson of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her late husband, Roger Nadeau's extended family. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Edson; grandson, Kevin Edson; brothers, Burnum Cross, who is survived by his wife, Frances, and Wellington Cross and his wife, Shirley; and sister, Betty and her husband, Albert Kolb, of New Jersey. A special thanks to all the loving, compassionate, caring employees at the Green Mountain Nursing Home who adored and catered to Millie. They have been a large part of her extended family for the past four years. There will be no viewing or visiting hours. A memorial service, followed by a luncheon, will be held at the Winooski Methodist Church on West Allen Street in Winooski, next Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at 1 p.m. Arrangements are by Steven C. Gregory and Son Cremation Services, Shelburne. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Green Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation, Resident Activities Fund, 1102 Ethan Allen Ave., Colchester, VT 05446, or the Winooski Methodist Church, West Allen Street, Winooski, VT 05404, or to the charity of your choice.

Aunt Millie was a wonderful wonderful person. She was kind and caring for those that needed it and she was an absolute blast to be with!! Her dry wit and one liners were priceless. As a boy I used to love to sit with the "grown ups" and hear her tell stories that always ended with a big laugh. The room was always warm and the spirits were always bright whenever Aunt Mildred was around.

I visited her a couple of times in Florida back in the early 90's and to my delight I learned she liked to have a vodka and Seven Up with a marachino cherry at the end of a long day. It was a delight to share that time with her.

My best wishes to Sharon, Jimmy, Tommy, and all Millie's family and friends.
