Paul Wanderlich Obituary

Paul H. Wanderlich

Essex - It is with great sadness that the family of Paul H. Wanderlich, age 63, of Essex, VT announce his unexpected passing on Wednesday October 17, 2018. Paul was son of the late Casimier and Therese (Molek) Wonderlick and is survived by his four brothers, Frank, Carl, Steve Mark and sister Mary. He is also survived by his two loving sons, Matthew and Michael Wanderlich as well as his six nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 31, 1955 Paul graduated from Quigley South High School in 1973 and graduated from Moraine Valley Community College with an associate's degree in electronics in 1976. He moved to California where he worked as an electronics technician and met his former wife, Nanse Nathan. Together they moved to Oregon and then to Vermont in 1985 where Matthew and Michael were born.

Paul loved living in Vermont where he adored camping, nature and spending time with his sons. He loved playing games and competitions, whether it be horseshoes, cards, golf, volleyball, bowling or anything else. After an outing or event Paul would always call to thank you and tell you what a great time he had. There were no strangers in Paul's world, only future friendships. He was always reaching out, willing to help others with a genuine smile on his face. He had an uncanny ability to approach total strangers and start a conversation, integrating his unique style of humor and making countless friends along the way. Paul was always positive, bringing smiles to everyone and joy to all. He was extremely thoughtful and never one to judge. Paul had the gift of including everyone, making everyone feel like family.

After Paul retired from Lowe's in 2017, he was always on the move, enjoying life to its fullest. If he wasn't on the golf course, he was traveling, dancing, camping, bowling, playing cards and spending his time with family and friends. He was the life of every party and a vibrant, well-known member of the local dance and music community. Most of all, Paul was exceptionally proud of his two sons. His greatest pleasure was spending time with them.

Paul was the eternal optimist, approaching each day as if it had no limits. He was truly one of a kind, a loyal friend, a gentleman and an incredible father. He will be deeply missed.

There will be a celebration of Paul's life on Sunday October 28, 2018, held at the St. John's Club in Burlington, VT from 11am - 2pm. Donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association and on-line condolences can be made at www.gregorycremation.com

To the whole Wanderlich Family: Words cannot express how sad we were to hear about Paul's passing. We both have such good memories of times spent with him here in Phillips - music by the campfire or just his visits. Always had a laugh when he was in the room !! I can just see him dancing with Therese in Heaven !! REST IN PEACE, PAUL.

My thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family. I knew Paul from basketball at Founder's Middle School years ago. Had talked to him last year at Lowes, he was so proud of his boys. We had talked about getting together for some golf, but we never got the chance. Paul was a wonderful person, hope he picks me to play on his bball team in Heaven, it would be an honor.

To Steve and all of Paul's family,

We are SO sorry.

We met Paul in the northeast kingdom of VT, through one of his dear friends, Margie, and Jane, a mutual friend of theirs. He seemed to like this area and had even mentioned earlier this summer that he'd wished he had known beforehand about a nearby property that had recently sold.

He seemed to enjoy the simpler things in life, a board- or card-game, fishing, or a campfire. He was definitely a conversationalist!

You (his loved ones) are in our thoughts and prayers. May you find strength and comfort during the weeks and months ahead.

Sincerely,
Jan and Michael Clarke (of Island Pond and Morgan, VT)

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Paul.. his obituary say's it all! We knew him in Vermont as he once worked at Home Depot and he and Emerson would play golf on occasion. He also came to our home in Florida for the last two years and made sure he'd stay a night or two to play golf and catch up . And yes he always called with a big thank you. Our thoughts and prayers to you all in this very difficult time. Sincerely, Emerson & Diane

Very shocked to hear this news... Paul was a great guy and loved people. I met Paul at Lowes and enjoyed seeing him there until he retired. We were hoping to meet up in St Pete Florida to dance this Winter. :(

Rest in peace, Paul.

To Paul's family, I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Paul at Lowes for 7 years, and he always brought wit and humor into our conversations. We shared many battles of Boston vs Chicago in baseball, football, hockey. and he would always jest that I should be a sportscaster on WCAX TV. I also knew he could lift my spirits. He was so proud of his sons, and would share about their Superbowl parties, and golfing. There was also the serious side of Paul. We were both experiencing issues with our moms health at the same time, and we would talk about it. I saw him about 2 weeks ago, and met one of his brothers. Thoughts and prayers to family and friends..Michael McAnulty
