Richard Cole Obituary

Richard Cole 59, of North Troy died at his home surrounded by his loving family Saturday December 9, 2006, after a courageous 16 month battle with cancer.

Rick was born June 29, 1947, in Newport, a son of Clifton and Florence (Robinson) Cole.

He served in the United States Air Force during the mid 60’s.

He married Nancy Riegel on September 28, 1972 in North Troy.

He worked at the Northern State Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer II for over 12 years. While there, he also was an American Red Cross CPR instructor until he took an early retirement due to his illness.

His hobbies included-sports, his motorcycle, Can-Am Speedway, computers, The Cole camp, his boat, watching his grandchildren play sports, most recently four wheeling with his family, and one of his favorites was playing music (the Morse Family Band.)

He was one of the founding members of the Missisquoi Valley Ambulance Service. He also helped organize the Missisquoi Valley Historical Society. He was a member of the American Legion Jay Peak Post #28 of North Troy where he held many post commands over the years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy of North Troy, daughters, Tina Therrien of St. Johnsbury and Jana Therrien and her husband Kevin of Newport Center, daughter-in-law Kim Cole of Derby Line, Son-in-law Mark Therrien of Newport, grandchildren, Corey, Nathan, Kristin, Jessica, Nicole, and Chantal Therrien, and Tabitha Cole; by his brother Reginald Cole and his wife Rachel of Zephyrhills, Florida. He is also survived by the following sister-in-laws, Dorothy Corkins of Newport, Shirley Doncaster and her husband Otis of Coventry, Dee Dee Morse and her husband Richard of Cornish, NH; and Mary Blais of Newport, by a brother-in-law William Riegel and his wife Jackie of Glover, Vt; and also by several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and special friends John and Nancy Pelletier of North Troy. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Timothy Cole, brother in-law Wallace Riegel, Jr, his sister-in-laws Josephine Morrrow and Betty Blais.

Friends may call from 6-9PM Wednesday December 13, and also from 10-11AM Thursday December 14, 2006 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport (formerly Sias Ave.) where funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday December 14, 2006 with Pastor Rick Menard officiating. Spring interment will held at the North Troy Village Cemetery with full military honors.

Nancy & family,
Richard will be greatly missed. I remember watching him play with the band so long ago. I know he loved his music. Rick and I both miss him. Our sympathy goes out to you and your family. We are here for you if you need anything.
