Robert T. Alden

ROBERT T. ALDEN MIDDLEBURY - Robert T. Alden, 91, died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, in Porter Medical center after a long illness. He was born on June 8, 1917, in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Alanson and Grace (Hunt) Alden. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II. Robert was a graduate of Middlebury College, Class of 1940 He was a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Chi Psi Fraternity, and the Middlebury College Alumni Association. He was a class agent and secretary. In the Middlebury community he was a member of the Friends of Art and the Sheldon Museum. Robert was employed as an accountant for the Clark Equipment Co. in Lima, Ohio, for many years. Survivors include his wife Barbara (Plumer) Alden of Middlebury; his three sons, William Alden and his wife Sharon of Sarasota, Fla., Meigs Alden and his wife Alana of South Dennis, Mass., and John Alden and his wife Chung of Indianapolis, Ind.; by his daughter Rebecca Alden of West Dennis, Mass.; by his stepson Peter Galligan and his wife Marcy of West Rutland; his two stepdaughters Sharon Johnson and her husband William of Cornwall, and Nancy Galligan of Parker, Colo.; by his nine grandchildren; and his ten greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Lewis (Baker) Alden who died in 1979; by his parents; his sister; and brother. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at 9:30 a.m., in St. Stephen Episcopal Church in Middlebury. The Rev. Terrance Gleason will officiate.
