Robert Mersereau Obituary

Robert E. Mersereau

Greensboro, NC - Robert E. Mersereau passed away December 23rd at Beacon Place with his wife and son at his side. He was born on August 24, 1927, the son of Emory P. and Marjorie Fimpel Mersereau. He grew up in White Plains, NY and graduated from White Plains Senior High School in 1945. Bob attended the New York State Maritime Academy, graduating in 1947 and went on to Purdue University, graduating in 1951 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Bob served his country as a lieutenant in the US Navy and Navy Reserve. His love of the ocean and sailing stayed with him his entire life. Bob loved racing sailboats of any size and had a love of anything mechanical, especially cars. He also loved music. He was a self-taught musician and enjoyed playing his guitars. After his service he married Patricia Bremner and they has one son Donald. After their divorce, he moved to Stamford CT where he worked for Pitney Bowes as an engineering manager until his retirement in 1985. He met Kay Spangler Kelly in Stamford and they were married on Christmas Eve fifty years ago. They had a beautiful life together, traveling the world with lots of laughter and love, eventually settling in Greensboro. Bob was incredibly smart and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered with great love by all who knew him. Bob was adored by his cat Honey. He is survived by his wife Kay, his son Donald E. Mersereau and his wife Molly of Williston, VT, a granddaughter Melissa Mersereau Sanchez and her husband Luis of Whidbey Island, WA, and four great-grandchildren: Noah, Jael, Noel and Mila all of Whidbey Island, WA and a stepson, Douglas Ward Kelley of Manhattan, NY. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Emory P. Mersereau Jr. Funeral services will be private.
