Don Neal Everett

1947 - 2026

Don Neal Everett, 78, was called to his eternal home on March 2, 2026. leaving behind a legacy of service, loyalty, and quiet strength that touched the lives of many. He was born on December 27, 1947, in Taylor, Texas to Maxine Baker Everett and Alton Gilbert Everett. He was raised on a cattle ranch as the youngest of four boys, learning early Christian values, the value of hard work, humility, and perseverance that would shape the man he became. Later, his family moved to Odessa, Texas, where Don attended Odessa High School.

It was in Odessa that Don met the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Plummer. Their relationship began in high school and grew through their college years together at West Texas State University. They were married on August 28, 1968. Their love for each other became the foundation of a 57 year marriage built on commitment, loyalty, and love.

In 1970, Don answered a calling to serve the State of Texas when he graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers Academy. Over the course of a distinguished 31-year career, he served the people of Texas with honor and integrity. Don rose to the rank of Lieutenant and ultimately served as Head of Security at the Texas Department of Public Safety State Headquarters. His career reflected his deep sense of duty, and the respect he earned from colleagues and the community alike. He retired from the Department of Public Safety in January of 2001. Retirement did not slow him down, and he continued serving others as a security officer for DPS Credit Union and Amplify Federal Credit Union in the Austin area, remaining active and connected with the community he cared about.

Don always lived a life rooted in Christian service and faith. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Bertram, where he faithfully lived out his commitment to serving others and his community. He lived life simply and on his own terms, always putting other's needs above his own. He was proudly "old school", preferring a handshake and a face-to-face conversation over a phone call, and certainly over an email. Technology was never something he embraced easily, but people were always something he embraced wholeheartedly. He believed in doing things the right way, often by hand rather than by machine. Don enjoyed golfing, camping and fishing, and in his younger days was an avid hunter. He looked most forward to an annual fishing trip spent with his brother Ted, and cousins David and Bubba.

Though he lived a simple life, Don's presence was larger than life. He had a way of making people feel welcome, respected, and heard. He was the kind of man who built friendships wherever he went, and many were fortunate enough to call him their friend. To those closest to him, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loving and devoted grandfather, and a mentor who led by example rather than words. Above all else, Don cherished his family deeply. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine and Gilbert Everett; his brothers, Mike Everett and Joe Everett; and his beloved son, Jack Alton Everett.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Everett; his brother, Ted Everett and his wife Ann; and his sons: Josh Everett and his wife Angie, along with their children Mason, Emily, Madelyn, Isa, and Sarah and her husband Collin; and Jay Everett and his wife Robyn, along with their children Gracelyn, Coralyn, and Bowen.

Don will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his integrity, his quiet strength, his years of dedicated public service, the deep love he had for his family, and the countless lives he touched through friendship, mentorship, and service. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home on Tuesday March 10, 2026 from 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 11, 2026 at 11:00am, with burial to follow at the Burnet City Cemetery.
