Mark Sanford Obituary

Mark Raymond Sanford, 63, of Bertram, Texas, departed this life to be with the Lord on November 11, 2024.

Mark was born on November 14, 1960 to Anne Scrivner Sanford and Levis Raymond Sanford in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1979, and worked for Bank of America until his retirement after 32 years.

The love of his life was his wife, Laura, whom he married on October 25, 2015, surrounded by their friends and family. Their mutual love of travel had them visit not only most of the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska), but also across the Caribbean, Europe, Russia and beyond. One of his biggest joys was being on "island time" and cruising with Laura and his family.

He loved so fiercely and unconditionally. He was exceeding patient with everyone around him and cared so much for his family and his friends. He was his father's primary caregiver for the end of his life and was an incredibly dedicated son. He believed in family, loyalty and faith above all else.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting. He shared many great memories with friends on the Texas City Dike, in Sargeant and Galveston, and at his family property in Bertram. He also loved the water - he owned many boats over his life, and his attempts at water skiing usually ended up with broken ribs.

He passed away doing what he loved - cruising. He spent his last day surrounded by family after a short trip to Galveston, and aboard Harmony of the Seas. We would like to thank Royal Caribbean for their medical care and their assistance at this difficult time.

He is survived by his wife, Laura, children Katie (David), Kate (Kevin), Kyle (Brie), Sam, Alex (Daniela), and Sarah. He also is survived by his two granddaughters, Lily and Riley.

Services will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery in Bertram, Texas, with a Celebration of Life to follow at his home, date TBD.
