VIRGINIA LEE MATSON Virginia Lee "Sissy" Matson, 100, of Augusta, KS, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in Wichita. Visitation 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Graveside service 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2025, at Lakeview Mausoleum, Wichita, KS. Virginia was born February 16, 1925, in Valley Center, KS, to Ido Franklin and Gladys Mae (Lewis) Bright. She grew up and went to school in Valley Center along with her five younger siblings, and over the years, they all started referring to her as "Sissy," a fond nickname that stayed with her for the duration of her life. On December 18, 1948, she married Jean L. Matson, and after living in Kechi, KS for a few years, they moved to Leon, KS in 1951, where they lived and raised their two children, Ivan and Brenda. Virginia enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, and watching baseball, especially her favorite team, the Chicago Cubs. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jean, son, Ivan Matson; brothers, Charles "Sonny", E.J., Frank, and Verlin Bright; and sister, Beverly Cannon. She is survived by: daughter, Brenda Church and husband Kenny of Andover, KS; one grandson; one great granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and a wide circle of friends.
