Brian Cowin Obituary

Brian Douglas Cowin, 39, of Fombell, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
Brian was born on April 6, 1983, in Natrona Heights.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie Banyay Cowin, whom he married on Sept. 12, 2015; his adored sons, Landon Scott and Bryce Forrest; his father, James S. Cowin (Gail); his mother, Vicky L. Honkus (Edward); his brother, Jeffrey S. Cowin; his stepsisters, Sara Malo (Jona) and Martha Stromann (Thomas); his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dan and Joan Banyay; his brother-in-law, Gregory Banyay (Jennifer); and multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Brian proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard and continued his service with the VA in Butler in medical scheduling. He attained his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was a valued instructor in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Brian held a B.A. in natural science from Slippery Rock University.
He was a person with wide interests and was in constant pursuit of knowledge, particularly in the sciences. Brian was a naturally gifted teacher and served as a naturalist for the YMCA summer camps in Cambridge, Ohio, for 10 years. He was a joy to watch working with special needs children and adults. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and water enthusiast, and loved animals of all kinds.
Family was of utmost importance to Brian. Laurie was the love of his life, and nothing made Brian more proud than being a father to his two sons. Brian's legacy, goodness, love and presence, will live on through Landon and Bryce. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Our hearts are broken for your family. I worked with Brian at the VA, in a program called VA Voices, and he always shared how much he loved his family and was so proud of his wife and children (and goats : ). The entire VA Voices team sends our love to the family and we wanted to share what a valued member of the team he was. He is deeply missed and always remembered.

Many fond memories of Brian in our youth. He made some dark days in our H.S years much brighter with his enthusiasm for life, his comical antics, he was a real treasure. Sending all our sympathy to Laurie and the boys.

I only knew Brian through Laurie´s stories of their beautiful, real life together. In all of them, it was very apparent what a happy, loving life he made with his family. It is also apparent in curious Landon´s joyful heart. What a special family. Most heartfelt sympathy goes to all of you.
