Dear Dr. Berner,
I was a grad student of yours also (93) and I echo the sentiments of Ms. Smith. You were a wonderful teacher and a good friend during a difficult period of my life. The world has clearly suffered a loss and her students must be devastated. The thoughts and prayers of my family are with you.

I didn't know Candice, but knew her father from SRU. She seems to have lived a full life for someone so young. It is sad that someone with such energy and strength has been taken when she could have accomplished so much more. My sincere sympathy to her family.

To Candice's family: I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school and graduated in 1996 with Candice. I am still in complete shock over what happened. I never got to know Candice like i wanted to. We recently got back in touch on facebook, and I am glad that I did. My deepest sympathies go out to you all.

Dr. Berner,
I am a former student. I was in your grad classes in the late 1980's. I learned a lot from you and enjoyed your classes. I am sure you influenced the kind of teacher I am. When I made the connection between you & Candice I was deeply saddened for you.She sounds like she was truly a giving, caring, compassionate, person which I'm sure she learned from your example. I am sorry for your loss and want you to know you & your family will be in my thoughts & prayers.
