Dale Daugherty Obituary

Dale A. Daugherty
Dale A. Daugherty, 86, of Butler died Saturday at his home.
Born June 10, 1922, in Cherry Township, he was the son of Elmer and Laura Cannon Daugherty.
Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served in 20th Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-29 in Tinian in the South Pacific. He was a flight crew member on 20 missions against Japan.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, on the missionary board, and on the school board for First Baptist Christian School. He belonged to the Berean Sunday School Class.
He enjoyed fishing and golf. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service at Evans City for 34 years, rising from the position of clerk to carrier and finally postmaster, having been appointed by President John F. Kennedy. He worked as postmaster for the last 17 years of his career before retiring in April 1978.
Surviving are his wife, Linda (Calairi) Daugherty, who he married Dec. 15, 1979; a daughter, Becky Hemann of Orinda, Calif.; two sons, James Daugherty of Evans City and Mark Daugherty of Harmony; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Betty Davis of West Sunbury; several nieces and nephews; and his Panera circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audean "Deanie" (Carnahan) Daugherty, who died June 19, 1977; a grandchild; three sisters, and a brother.
DAUGHERTY- Friends of Dale A. Daughterty, who died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, PA.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Dave Maitland, officiating. Burial will be in the Evans City Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., Butler, PA 16001 or to the VNA Hospice, 160 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
