David Balash Obituary

David Jeffrey Balash, 66, of Volant, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025.
A proud Marine, devoted husband, father, grandfather and lifelong Steelers fan, David lived with grit, humor and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life - his home, the outdoors and the people he cherished most.
Born Dec. 22, 1958, David was the son of the late Ralph Joseph (Marilyn) Balash and Virginia Johanna Kohler Balash.
He is survived by his wife, Shawne; and his children, Lindsey (Dutch), Jason and Phillip, who carry forward his strength and spirit. David was a proud grandfather to Shane, Josey, Olivia and Ginny; and a loving brother to Beverly Struzynski, Linda Kline (Bob Lakits) and Joe Balash (Lisa).
He was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph Balash and Rhonda Balash.
David's life was marked by service, loyalty and resilience. Whether cheering on the Steelers, working around his home, or spending time with his grandchildren, he brought warmth and laughter to every moment.
He was a man of deep Catholic faith and his involvement in his local parish was a meaningful part of his life. His spiritual strength carried him through life's challenges and gave comfort to those around him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, including many nieces and nephews, by his friends who knew him as someone who could light up a room with a glance and a grin, and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
BALASH - The family of David Jeffrey Balash, who died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 670 S. Main St., Slippery Rock.

Fran Hensler, Ministry Scheduler (Retired)

I had the privilege of serving as the scheduler for volunteer ministers at St. Peter Church in Slippery Rock-now part of St. Faustina Parish with five worship sites - for many years. Among all the dedicated volunteers, Dave stood out as exceptionally cooperative and generous. He once told me, paraphrased: "If you ever need someone, I´m willing to serve anytime, anywhere." And he truly lived by that promise - often stepping in on short notice, especially when someone had to cancel unexpectedly. His quiet reliability and unwavering commitment were a gift to our parish community.

Dave´s kindness and readiness to serve left a lasting impression. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the joy of working alongside him.

Dave was a volunteer for St. Faustina Parish. Dave's devotion to our Lord, and the church, is inspirational. He would make himself available for any church as Lector, Eucharistic Host and/or Chalice including for those homebound. Dave always had a smile, kindness and goodness for everyone. Truly an extraordinary good man. May God Bless you Dave and your family always.

Dave and I grew up together and our houses were almost back to back separated by the alley that was famous for sledriding and catching bees and butterflies. Once in a while his dad we called "hair" for the wild looking hair on his head would get the kids from the neighborhood and pile into his station wagon to go out and play baseball. We had fun growing up together and got into some trouble too. But they are great memories to have with Dave.
