DeVan B. Walker
DeVan B. Walker, 81, of Evans City died Monday at his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1926, in Evans City, he was the son of the late Earl "Bud" Walker and the late Bertha (Yund) Walker.
Mr. Walker graduated from Evans City High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1944 to June 1946 and was honorably discharged following World War II.
He attended engineering school at Geneva College and worked as a mechanical engineer for 39 years at Mathews Conveyor and Rexnord in Ellwood City and Danville, Ky.
DeVan gave much of his time to helping other people. He served his churches in Evans City, Harrodsburg, Ky., and recently Old Union Presbyterian Church in Mars. He served as president of the Evans City Athletic Association and Evans City Rotary before his work transfer to Kentucky.
In Kentucky, he was especially proud of donating time and serving Habitat for Humanity, where he supervised, labored and constructed approximately 10 single-family houses for the needy.
Following retirement, when he and his wife were not helping family or serving others, they traveled seeing the wonders of the world, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, South America, Russia, Scandinavia, North Africa, Western Europe and Asia.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth (Strutt) Walker; daughter, Lynn Meyers and her husband, Richard, of Zelienople and their three children: Tracy Meyers Killoran and her husband, James, and their sons, Jack and Sam of Suwanee, Ga.; Julie Meyers of Glenshaw and Brian Meyers and his wife, Molly, and their daughter, Sloan, of Evans City; son, Van Walker and his wife, Frances of Valencia and their three daughters, Vanessa Walker of Pittsburgh, Emily Walker Mettee and her husband, Tom, and their two daughters, Amanda and Lilly, of Indiana, Pa., Monica Walker Matta and her husband, Ben and their daughter, Camryn, of Pittsburgh; son, Larry Walker and his wife, Erin, of Evans City and two daughters, Ashley and Alayna Walker of Evans City and Tyler and Dillon Walker of Zelienople; son, Bruce Walker of Evans City; and two sisters, Beverly Westerman and her husband, Verle, of Evans City and Shirley Dunbar and her husband, Tom of Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Grisinger.
WALKER - Friends of DeVan B. Walker, who died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Boylan Funeral Home Inc., 116 E. Main St., Evans City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter C. de Vries, his church pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Evans City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars PA 16046; or to the VNA Hospice of Western Pennsylvania, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.

Dear Ruth, Lynn and Van,
Joanne and I are so sorry for your loss.
Joanne, like Phyllis, remembers the pajama party days, but I, Vic, remember most the endless days we spent on DeVan's almost professional baseball field playing baseball and Ruth being one of the origional coolade Mom's.
Joanne and I are so glad that you and your husband were able to travel and have such a great time toegther.
