Frederick Ralph Allshouse
Frederick Ralph Allshouse, 69, of Kittanning died Tuesday in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born June 30, 1941, in Brockway, he was a son of the late Ralph E. Allshouse and Betty J. (Carnahan) Allshouse.
He was a lifelong resident of the Kittanning area and was an operator of heavy equipment all of his life.
Fred served his country in the Navy from 1961 to 1965 and served aboard destroyer USS Massey out of Newport, R.I. Most of his time was spent in the Mediterranean, but he was stationed in Cuba during the missile crisis.
Fred was a member of the Worthington American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, loved spending time with his dog, Kiko, and riding his John Deere.
Fred was a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Campbell) Allshouse, who he married Oct. 8, 1965; a daughter, Christina Mares of Cannon City, Colo.; and sons, Brian Allshouse of Kittanning and Keith (Beth) Allshouse of Hagerstown, Md. He also is survived by three grandchildren, Nicole Renee Mares, Cooper Owen and Josie Elizabeth Allshouse; a sister, Susan (John) Benner of Wyoming; and four aunts, Doris Smith and Margaret Allshouse, both of Brookville, Betty Carroll of Cabot and Bessie (Roland) Simmons, of Syracuse, N.Y. He had numerous nieces and nephews; twin grandnephews, Colin and Aidan; and many cousins. Included among these are Richard and Sally Carnahan, who have been Fred's lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
ALLSHOUSE - Friends of Frederick Ralph Allshouse, who died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the KENNEDY & BLODGETT FUNERAL HOME, 253 North Grant Ave., Kittanning. Visitation also will be 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Daniel A. Stinson officiating. Interment will be in the Windy Hill Cemetery, Brookville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Kittanning Orphans of the Storm Animal Rescue.
