G. Edwin VanDyke, 90, of South Buffalo Township passed away Wednesday surrounded by his family at Fair Winds Manor in Winfield Township.
Ed was born on his family farm in South Buffalo Township Aug. 16, 1927. He was the son of the late Gwendolyn T. (Terbush) and Glenn E. VanDyke. He was the widower of Marthella B. "Toot" (Kropp) VanDyke who passed in 2014.
Ed worked and ran his family dairy farm for most of his life. The family sold the dairy business in 1963 and Ed took a job with Norwood Knappenberger Bus Co. Ed also worked in maintenance for the Moonlight Mushroom Mine for over 20 years.
Ed was a founding father and lifetime member of the South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver.
Ed enjoyed going to his family camp and trips to Lancaster. Ed loved to go for drives in his car, farming, driving his tractors - Farmalls only - and spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his three sons, Robert L. VanDyke and Glenna Wyant, Terry L. VanDyke Sr. and Kathy Thornhill and Charles E. and Mona VanDyke Sr., all of South Butler; and his daughter, Donna K. and Dan Wright of South Buffalo Township; his grandchildren, Gretchen Troutman, Dan and Julie Van Dyke, Terry L. and Catalda VanDyke Jr., Traci and Lee Heilman, Tim and Angie VanDyke, Charles E. and Brandy VanDyke Jr., Eve VanDyke, Ethan and Michelle Wright and Kelly Wright and Anthony Dongiovanni; and his great-grandchildren, Zane, Brianna and Lukas Troutman, Justen VanDyke, Mattina, Torino and Tristen VanDyke, Kayleigh and Alexander Vetovich, Liam, Jane, Brody, Dominic and Asher VanDyke, Dylan and Maddie VanDyke, Jalen Brown and Lane Joseph Wright.
Ed is also survived by his two sisters, Evelyn Stokes and Kathleen and Dave Ehrman.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jocelyn Troutman; and his stepmother, Virginia I. (Hill) VanDyke.
VANDYKE - Family and friends of G. Edwin VanDyke, who died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.
Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church, 438 Bear Creek Road, Sarver.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Rob Wilson officiating.
A family burial will be held in Sarverville Cemetery.
