This saddens me greatly. First, my condolences to his family. I know he will be missed.
I met George when I was around 14 or so, in the early 1970s. I sometimes would house-sit, with Brouge when they went on vacation. I would shoot pool or swim in the meantime. When George was home, he allowed a young long haired teenager to assist and learn everything he was doing on his vettes. It was a coincidence that 2 of his 3 were my favorite years, 58, 66, and also his 72. I remember the day that he bought each of them. I learned a lot from him as we removed the bodies from the frames, stripped and repainted them, and went parts chasing. I developed an addiction to vettes and cars in general. When we took a break, I would beat him at tennis. Yes, I actually won.
My father had been dead for about 6 years when I met George. He didn't hesitate to include me or mentor me. He was a wholesome, good, and honorable man.
I did a search for him years ago and got a phone number. I called it a few times with negative results. I just wanted to see how he was doing and to say thanks for treating me the way he did. I loved George.
I will miss you more now that I know you are gone and I couldn't express my gratitude.
RIP George.
