Jefferson M. Yeilding

1918 - 2015

Born and raised in Birmingham, AL, Jefferson Morris Yeilding went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 9, 2015.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Yeilding of Cameron Park, CA, Diane Hyde (Doug) of Pelham, AL and Jill Lacalle (Dennis) of Shingle Springs, CA. Mr. Yeilding also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Teresa Lacalle of Shingle Springs, CA, Shelley Madueme of Flintstone, GA, Christy Cummins of Cameron Park, CA, Steven Hyde of Thousand Oaks, CA, Melissa Haley of Hoover, AL, Jeffrey Lacalle of Pollock Pines, CA, and Joey Lacalle of Cameron Park, CA. In addition, Mr. Yeilding's legacy includes 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Yeilding was a Veteran of WWII. He served as a member of the 306th Airdrome Squadron in the Pacific Theatre, where he was stationed in the Philippines.

Mr. Yeilding lived in California for 50 years where he and his wife raised their family. There he actively served God in many ways, including the church choir, board of trustees, and teaching college Sunday school.

Mr. Yeilding worked in the aerospace industry for many years supervising rocket motor testing. Later he was employed in the healthcare industry as a biomedical equipment technician. His many hobbies included ham radio club, raising azaleas & Japanese maple trees, lapidary work, and traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Mr. Yeilding returned with his wife in 1996 to their native home of Alabama, living in Florence, AL for 10 years before returning to Birmingham.

Mr. Yeilding was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Mildred Harmon Yeilding, infant son Patrick Hughes Yeilding, father Jefferson M. Yeilding, Sr., mother Eula Dickey Yeilding, sister Marjorie Dickson and Virginia Barbour, and great-grandaughter Sarah Grace Madueme.

The family will greet friends one hour before the 11 a.m. funeral on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Birmingham.

Mr. Yeilding will be deeply missed by the family and friends he leaves behind. The family is forever grateful to the fine caregivers of Galleria Woods Skilled Nursing Unit for the loving care they provided over the past four years.
