Judith “Judy” Walliser Obituary

Butler native Judith "Judy" Anne Walliser died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
She was born March 22, 1944, to William R. and Olive B. Wick, of Butler.
While attending public schools in Butler, Judy looked up to her teachers and decided early that she would become a teacher too. After graduating from Butler High School in 1962, she went to what was then Indiana State Teachers College. She earned a degree in elementary education in 1966 from the school, which had changed its name to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
While at Indiana, Judy met fellow student, Wayne Walliser, whom she married on Dec. 21, 1966. She taught fourth grade at Center Township School, and after the couple moved to Pittsburgh, she again taught fourth grade at Ridgewood School in the North Hills School District.
After the birth of their twin boys in 1970, Judy and Wayne moved to Butler to be close to Judy's parents. Judy spent the rest of her career at the Blind Association in Butler, where as casework supervisor, she helped clients find the resources they needed. She retired in 2006.
During their years in Butler, both Judy and Wayne were active in the Butler Order of the Elks Club, Chapter 170. Judy held a number of offices in her 20 years with the club, including the top one, Exalted Ruler. Judy was also a member and past president of the Mothers of Twins Club, and was active at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where she served as director of Christian education and taught church school. In her free time, she also loved to do crafts, including embroidery, knitting and weaving.
After Wayne died, Judy decided to move to Florida, which she did in 2019. She died there after an extended illness.
She is survived by her sons, Charles William and Christopher Wayne, of Daytona Beach; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Wick and Maurice Warner, of Seattle; her sister-in-law, Judy Stack of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two nephews; a niece; and a grandniece.

October 4, 2025

Uncountable hours of walking together from home to school or home to the bus stop, sharing and comparing the world view of Ray and Olive to that of John and Virginia. Rarely agreeing yet always cheering each other on with hope our only source. How different my life would have been had God not arranged for us to grow up just a few doors apart. Farewell, dear friend. Watch for me, please.
