Lon Hovis Obituary

Lon L. Hovis Sr., 86, of Oakland Township, Butler, died suddenly at home Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024. He is the son of the late Earl Leroy Hovis and Ethel Louise Drake Hovis. He was born on Monday, Nov. 21, 1938.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, achieving the rank of E9, who retired after 23 years of service as an Army Armor School teacher (tanks and trucks).
His passion was reading and solving puzzles. He was a member of St. Paul's Community Church, Chicora, and the Chicora and East Brady American Legion posts.
Lon is survived by his loving wife, Eileen V. Gutherie Hovis, whom he married Wednesday, July 5, 1961, enjoying 63 blissful years; a daughter, Glenda Jean Hovis; a son, Lonnie L. (Heather) Hovis Jr.; four dogs, Bella Sara, Emily Sue, Clyde, Abby; and two cats, Booky and Bella.
HOVIS - A graveside service for Lon L. Hovis Sr., who died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, will be held at 11 a.m. the day after Christmas, Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, at Oak Grove Cemetery, 2167 Route 268, Frogtown, Chicora, followed by full military honors by the Chicora and East Brady American Legion posts, with Kenneth Tack Jr. officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of THOMAS M. STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME.
