Maurice Grossman
Maurice Donald "Sonny" Grossman, 81, of Slippery Rock, Scott Township, Lawrence County, died at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
Born in Clay Township, June 9, 1929, he was the son of Lewis Leroy Grossman and Dorothy Evelyn McCandless Grossman.
He married Joy Ann Cratty Grossman on Dec. 9, 1949.
He worked 30 years for the Flowline Corp. in New Castle as a machinist and turn foreman in a machine shop, retiring in 1989. Also, he and his wife operated a farm in Scott Township
Mr. Grossman was a Protestant.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed boating, fishing in Canada, traveling to Florida and Arizona and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Ann Grossman at home; a daughter, Joy E. and her husband, William Whitmire, of Slippery Rock; two sons, James M. Grossman and his wife, Gail, of Polk and Bradley L. Grossman and his wife, Marilyn, of Charleston, W.Va.; 10 sisters, Sarah "Sis" Brown of Butler, Wanda and her husband, Robert Brown, of Butler, Donna and her husband, Gilbert Hoover, of Claytonia, Joann Surrena of Grove City, Nancy and her husband, Roland Ferguson, of West Sunbury, Pearl and her husband, Richard Schlatz, of Butler, Irene McQuiston of Emlenton, Connie Reeder of Claytonia, Cindy and her husband, Rich Marshall, of West Sunbury and Terry and her husband, Barry Riddle, of Clintonville; and five brothers, Harold "Sim" Grossman and his wife, Beth, of West Sunbury, Ron Grossman and his wife, Carol, of Slippery Rock, Rich Grossman and his wife, Marcia, of Slippery Rock, Frank "Joe" Grossman and his wife, Val, of Slippery Rock and John "Butch" Grossman and his wife, Bonnie, of Slippery Rock.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lisa, Lorraine, Jimmy, Jennifer, Julie, Rhonda and Ryan; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Arthur; and two brothers, Lonnie and Samuel "Buck" Grossman.
GROSSMAN - Funeral services for Maurice Donald "Sonny" Grossman, who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, will be at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Unity Baptist Cemetery.

My sincere condolances. I havn't seen Sonny since we were kids. Sonny is a second cousin of mine as my mother Stella McCandless Carrara was a first cousin of Dorothy McCandless Grossman. Robert M. Carrara, Cranberry Twp., Pa. and was born in Hallston 1932.

Joy and family, You have my deepest sympathy . I can remember when You and Sonny got married. I was glad to be able to visit with him at the Grossman reunion last August.
