Michael “Mick” Sheppeck Obituary

Michael Anthony Sheppeck, lovingly known as "Mick," 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at his home on Nettles Island in Jensen Beach, Fla., surrounded by his family.
Mick was born Oct. 1, 1951, in Memphis, Tenn., to Adam and Maryann Sheppeck. He grew up in Butler alongside his siblings - Richard, Thaddeus, Theresa and David Sheppeck.
From a young age, Mick possessed an exceptional drive and natural talent. He was a gifted baseball player, a Junior Olympics weightlifter and a talented musician who played both the accordion and organ. He also performed as a member of the band "The Jents," creating memories and friendships that stayed with him throughout his life.
Education was one of Mick's greatest passions. He earned his bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, his master's degree from Western Washington University, and his Ph.D. from the University of South Florida.
Mick began his professional journey with the National Bank of Detroit before moving into a successful tenure with Honeywell, where he dedicated 11 years of service. His career culminated in academia, where he served as a tenured professor at University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., specializing in business management and human resources. A respected, published and highly awarded scholar, Mick was admired for his sharp mind, mentorship and genuine care for his students and colleagues. He took great pride in his work and in the opportunity to shape future generations of professionals and leaders.
Mick married the love of his life, Susan, and together they shared 51 years of partnership rooted in loyalty, faith, family and perseverance. He was the proud father of Clifford and Tyler; the deeply cherished grandfather of Kaylee, Ayden, Ava, Rylan and Alexander; and great-grandfather of Hadlee. His family was the heart of his world.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Mick found joy in simple and meaningful pursuits: cheering on sports, supporting and watching his grandchildren's athletic and academic achievements, continuing to learn and teach and offering thoughtful guidance to those he loved. He valued hard work, education, commitment and integrity. He was also a lifelong member of the Catholic faith, serving as an altar boy in his youth and carrying his faith quietly yet steadily throughout life.
Mick is survived by his wife, Sue; his sons, Cliff (Crystal) and Tyler (Celina); his grandchildren, Kaylee (Joe), Ayden, Ava, Rylan and Alexander; great-granddaughter, Hadlee; his siblings, Richard (Laura), Thaddeus, Theresa (Sheppeck) Fulmer and David (Sherrie); and in-laws, Robert (Donna) Curry and Debra Curry; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Maryann Sheppeck; in-laws, James and Rosamond Curry; and sister-in-law, Amy Sheppeck.
He will be remembered as a man of few, but meaningful, words, whose presence carried quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the example he set and the family he fiercely loved. He will be deeply missed and forever honored.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at St. Jude’s of the Lake Catholic Church, 700 Mahtomedi Ave., Mahtomedi, Minn.
