Nancy Moyer Obituary

Nancy Ellen Moyer, 77, passed away on Monday following a lengthy battle with leukemia at the Community Care Hospice Center in Mount Joy with her loving husband by her side.
The daughter of the late Richard A. and Genevieve (Renforth) Gillon, Nancy was born on Dec. 27, 1936, in Butler.
She was the cherished wife of James M. Moyer, who survives, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage in August. Jim and Nancy had the distinction of being the first official marriage at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
She is survived by two sons, James R. Moyer and his wife, Jacqueline, of Red Oak, Va., and Jon R. Moyer and his wife, Angeline, of York, Pa. Nancy had two grandchildren, Lauren and James Moyer; and four stepgrandchildren, Lindsay and Mitchell Morris and Gary and Wes Heafner. Nancy will be missed by her brother, Richard U. Gillon and his wife, Betty, of Marietta, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Barbara Richardson and her husband, Vernon, of New Port Richie, Fla.; her brother-in-law, James C. Young of Tucson, Ariz., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Genevieve Marie (Gillon) Young, and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Holloman) Heafner Moyer.
Nancy was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church following a move to the York, Pa., area in 2004. Before that, Nancy attend the St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
Nancy entered the work force immediately after high school as an employee in the office for the superintendent of the Butler School District from 1954 to 1958. From 1958 to 1965, Nancy worked as the secretary to the president of Slippery Rock State College, now a university.
From 1965 to 1982, Nancy was a dedicated and devoted stay-at-home mother, who was actively involved with her sons' busy schedules, including scouting, sports, music lessons and ensembles and school functions.
From 1982, until her retirement in 1999, Nancy went back to work as a secretary and office manager for the Butler Area Agency on Aging.
Outside of work, Nancy embraced her role as "official family photographer," having taken, cataloged and preserved thousands of pictures throughout her life. Her retirement was full of time spent at concerts and sporting events watching kids and grandkids in action as well as trips and visits to and with family members. Nancy also was a skilled and talented gardener, who enjoyed backyard bird watching.
MOYER - In celebration of her life, a blessing service for Nancy Ellen Moyer, who passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, will be at the Narthex of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, Pa., at 5 p.m. Thursday with light refreshments to follow. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, North Main Street Extension, Butler, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, 2405 Park Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or online by visiting www.lls.org.
