Raymond Covert Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Wade Covert, 74, of Butler passed away early Thursday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 2, 1943, in Butler, he was the son of the late Raymond W. Covert II and Marie (Crispin) Covert.
Ray proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 until 1965.
Upon returning home from the military, Ray pursued a career as an electrician and was a member of the local electrical Union 5 from which he retired in January 2005. Ray was never short on stories of the many buildings he worked on in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.
Ray was a member of St. John's Reformed Church.
In addition, he pursued his passion of the outdoors as an active hunter, trapper and fisherman and was a member of the East Butler Sportsman Club. He was a competitive shooter, competing in several Competition Grand Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Covert, whom he married Aug. 12, 2000; his son, Ray W. Covert IV and his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Heather Goodhart and Holly Malehorn; his grandson, Raymond W. "Wade" Covert V; his brother, Clarence Covert; his stepchildren, Dusty Gilliland and Travis Flinner; and step-grandchildren, Luke Gilliland, Josie Gilliland, Madeline Gilliland, Damion Flinner and Kayla Wick.
Finally, Ray was never one to express his caring in flowery words. Instead, he did so by always being willing to jump in and lend a hand to a friend, a neighbor and his family. One of his favorite sayings to his wife was, "I love you more, three or four."
COVERT - Friends of Raymond "Ray" Wade Covert, who died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Reformed Church, 493 Evans City Road, Butler. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jarrod Crawford officiating.
