Hi, Gail ... I was so sorry to read of Bob's passing in the Mercersburg magazine I just received. His friendship meant so much to me - his devotion to Mercersburg was so strong. Bob and I graduated high school in the same year. I remember especially, the dinner Bob enjoyed with his Mercersburg classmates on the occasion of their 50th reunion. They passed the hat for Mercersburg and collected what I thought was a more than respectable amount. Then Bob stood up and excoriated them for not having given more. He said he'd lead the way, and he did, and the other guys joined in. Since retiring I've missed my regular visits to Butler, and the golf we enjoyed together on some of those occasions. It was wonderful to see your picture with Bob in the recent Mercersburg magazine. It reminded me of how lucky I was to have been associated with the school.
And, I am still in close touch with your old Grove City classmate Barb Carstensen, who is retired with her husband in Chambersburg. My wife Linda and I moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE in retirement, where our son has a good business.

Memories Over The Years- With Sympathy:
Bob and I grew up together in the little town of Eau Claire, Pennsylvania. He was two years older than me. He lived up the street from us, The Sloan family.
His mother, Josephine, was our Sunday school teacher for several years. His older sister, Donna Jean, an older brother Harry Joe were always busy working at the Hunter´s International Truck Garage. They also helped at the grandparents store, J.M. Beatty´s "your one stop store."
During our Eau Claire school days, Bob and his cousin, Jimmy Beatty left and attended Kiski Prep School, Mercersburg Academy. Then Bob went on to attend Grove City College, marriage, raising a family with Gail and developing Hunter´s Truck Sales into a great business.
I recollect, both of his grandparents, Edith and Harry Hunter, and Velma and Joseph Beatty. Oh, and Bob had a big pure white German shepherd dog I was always hesitant of it.
Where did all those years go?
An "ole town" friend,
Robert (Bob) Sloan
