William Marburger Obituary

William F. Marburger, 79, of Hummelstown passed away June 26 at his home after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Born Nov. 20, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late Andrew Marburger and Violet (Marburger) Huckaba. William married Shirley Hillis on May 31, 1958, and they were married 58 years.
He was a veteran and served as an electronics and guided missile instructor sergeant at the U.S. Army Guided Missile School at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.
William graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and science. He received his doctorate at George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
William's love of education, math, children and traveling inspired and guided his many experiences throughout his 45 years as a public educator. Early in his career, he worked at various schools throughout California, New Mexico and Delaware.
After moving to Shippensburg, Pa., in 1976, he assumed positions of curriculum director, elementary supervisor and assistant superintendent. William spent 10 years as the superintendent of the Moniteau School District. He ended his career as a math education adviser for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. William enjoyed meeting and working with math educators across the state.
He was a 50-year member of the Brownstone Lodge 666 F&AM in Hershey and a member of the Harrisburg Consistory. He loved traveling, fishing, collecting antiques and spending time with his family.
William is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hillis) Marburger of Hummelstown; and two daughters, Melanie Marburger of Hummelstown and Lisa (George) Sturges of Fairfield, Pa.

Dr. Marburger gave me my teaching start at Moniteau in 1996. I appreciate all that he did for me and for the children of our district. He brought technology to our district long before many neighboring districts thought to do so. Blessings to the family.

To Mr Marburgers family you have my deepest sympathy. He was a wonderful man. At the time he was at Moniteau School District I had the pleasure of talking with him several times I drove school bus for Campbell Bus Company at that time you all lived on my bus route he had a pond on his property and had several ducks multiple times I would have to stop the bus and wait for the mother duck and her ducklings to cross the kids on the bus thought that was the cutest thing. You all take care it was such a joy knowing him. Janet Stansfield
