C.J. Dodd

1945 - 2024

Mr. C.J. Dodd, 78 of Calhoun, departed this life Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his residence following four months of declining health.

C.J. was born in Gordon County on May 3, 1945, one of fourteen children born to the late Roy Henley Dodd and Ethel "Granny" Bagley Dodd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Dodd on April 9, 2019; sisters, Melba Dodd, Charlene Dodd Fain, Shirley Dodd Roland; brothers, Waylon Dodd, Harlen Dodd, Bill Dodd, and Harold Dodd. Surviving brothers include Ford Dodd and Ronnie Dodd of Calhoun; sisters Faye Dodd-Estes, Hope Lewis, Evelyn Oliver, and Carol Dodd Puckett of Calhoun.

He attended Red Bud School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was the founder and operator of Dodd's Carpet, Inc. and enjoyed seeing the "carpet store" grow into what it is today. He enjoyed being on the farm and always finding ways to improve and invest into beautiful pieces of properties that he had the perfect eye for. If he was not scoping out land or taking care of customers and family, you could find him and his boys on the golf course with an early tee time before taking home the winnings. CJ was a very giving and loving man with a heart bigger than the oceans. He never hesitated when there was a need in his community. When it comes to children or the elderly in need, he was the very first to be contacted and provided just as God called him to do. He never forgot how it was to grow up in his earlier years with the struggles and sacrifices that shaped him into the man he became, with the legacy that he left behind.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Dodd; son and daughters-in-law, Cres and Sharon Dodd and Angie Dodd; daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina and Peter Tongren; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tiffany) Dodd, Madison (Gabe) Erwin, Avery Dodd, Sydney Dodd, Jett Tongren and Katie Queen; great-grandchildren, Ellie Jo and Darcee Erwin, Briggs and Scarlett Dodd, along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A service to celebrate the memories of C.J. Dodd will be conducted Tuesday, April 30th, at Trinity Baptist Church at 5:00 P.M. Mitch Ralston and Madison Dodd-Erwin will be speaking along with Rev. Jamey Hunt and Rev. Eddie Brannon. Entombment will follow at Chandler Cemetery. Carmen Green will arrange the music. Pallbearers serving will include Matthew Dodd, Melvin Nichelson, Kenny Oliver, Mitch Ralston, Ritchie Harris, Bob Parlo, and Danny Phillips. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Strickland, Ken McIntyre, Tom Peeples, Neal Holsomback, Terry Hicks, Jerry Miller, Tim Taylor, Bobby Walraven, Bob Nance, Kevin Smith, Mike Jinwright, Terry Brumlow, Michael Hill, Gary Moss, Jay Biddle, Jerry Davis, Clarence Burger, Julian Jones, Marvin Shaw, Paul Gentry, Bo Newberry and Terry Wright.

The family will receive friends at Trinity Baptist Church on Monday, April 29th, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
