Corpus Christi, TX
Alfonso L. Davila, at the age of 93, passed away December 20, 2017.
He was born in Gonzales Texas. Alfonso is preceded in death by his parents Rufino and Paula Lopez Davila and sister Jesusa Hinojosa. Also surviving are his sisters, Delfina De Santos and Maria Botello.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Enriqueta De La Pena Davila; children, Olga Davila, Alfonso Davila (Sylvia), Miguel Davila, Leticia Davila Benavides (Larry) and Rose Rocha. Also surviving are six loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He served our country through the U.S. Army in World War II from 1944 to 1945. He was honorably discharged with varies medals of service and honor including the Purple Heart after being seriously wounded by a German 88 artillery shell. Alfonso retired in 1980 with a total of 30 years with Civil Service at Chase Field Base in Beeville, Texas. During his 37 years of retirement he enjoyed watching football, BBQing, traveling, being a Flea Market vendor and Loved being with his family.

Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Our sincere condolences to the entire family. You are in our prayers. The last time I talked to Mr. Davila, he offered to show me his shadow box. It was amazing. The purple heart and other awards as well as the piece of metal that wounded him during a battle. Much to be proud of. I was in the presence of a hero. I will always remember that moment.

Our deepest sympathies to our Tia Enriketa, Cousins Alfonso Jr., Olga, Miguel, and Leticia. Also, our deepest sympathy to Rose Rocha. Tio was a war hero, having earned the Purple Heart. When he was wounded, he was sent to a hospital in the Trinadad/Tobago Islands in the Caribbean. He recuperated there and when he was eventually sent home, turns out he had learned to dance a little Calypso! Also, we so fondly remember our Tio and family when they lived in Beeville, TX. Tio would welcome us with a cold, giant watermelon ready to be sliced lengthwise. We would jump and swing and play all over his large mowed property...it was wonderful!
