Cecil Anglin Obituary

Cecil Glenn Anglin, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004 after a short illness. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Fletcher Anglin, his parents Manuel Boss and Elvie Lee Anglin, sister Juanita King and brother George Hilburn. Cecil was born on March 29, 1925 in Post, Texas. He grew up in Thrall and San Antonio, Texas before moving to Portland, Texas in 1963 where he lived until his death. In December 1942, Cecil enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II. While aboard the USS Washburn, he traveled to China, France, and Japan. While at sea his ship was headed to Japan, but was ordered home after the atomic bomb was dropped. In September 1946, he married and had 4 children. Cecil worked for Kraft Foods, before developing an interest in building signs. He worked for several sign companies in San Antonio and Corpus Christi before starting his own company "Anglin Sign Company" in Portland, until his health forced him to retire. He is survived by his children, Gayle Medina, Glenn and Rose Anglin of San Antonio, Texas, David and Lynn Anglin, Nita Anglin-Garcia and Gilbert M. Garcia of Portland, Texas; Eight grandchildren: Desi James (D.J.) Medina, Brian Medina, Laura Anglin, Matthew Anglin, Kimberly Ferrell, Daniel Ferrell, Brittney Garcia, Brandon Garcia and Shelby Anglin; one great-grandchild Brendan Ferrell. A funeral service will be conducted 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 7, 2004, at Roy Akers Funeral Chapel, 515 N. Main Ave., San Antonio, Texas. Burial will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
