CLARK Dr. Charles S. Clark, Sr., born on February 17, 1923 in Crowell, Texas to Dr. Hines and Arrie Thomson Clark, died on July 7, 2012. He graduated from Crowell High School in 1940 and attended the University of Texas in Austin for pre-med training. He enrolled in the Navy V-12 program, entered the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and graduated in 1946 with an MD degree. His postgraduate training was received in the Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, followed by a two-year term as a Naval Medical Officer at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi. He began solo practice of Family Medicine in 1949 in Corpus Christi and organized the group practice of Family Practice Associates in 1985. Dr. Clark was an original founder of the Doctors Hospital, which opened in 1962 and is now a part of Corpus Christi Medical Center. In 1992 he left private practice to assume the position of Physician Advisor/Medical director for Corpus Christi Medical Center, an HCA facility, and continued in that position until May. In addition to business ventures of ranching, rural real estate development, and investments, Dr. Clark embarked on a writing career in 2001 and has published 8 novels.He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Golden Clark and by his parents; his brother, Dr. Dan H. Clark; his sisters: Frances Male, and Catherine Cumley; his daughter, Connie Clark Doris; his granddaughter, Emily Aletha Clark; and his great-grandchild, Blaine Bolzle.He is survived by his sons: Dr. Charles S. Clark, Jr., (Jan) and James Delane Clark (Antoinette) of Corpus Christi and Roger Dan Clark (Wendy) of Houston; his daughters: Susan R. Barham of Corpus Christi, Doreen Kay Clark of Fredricksburg, and Cathey Frances Clark of Austin; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.Professional memberships have included: the Nueces County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, American Board of Family Practice, and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review. Other memberships have been the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi, The Town Club, NAACP, the Jewish Community Center, The Art Museum, the Writer's League of Texas, and the San Antonio Writer's Guild. He is a member of the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue.Pallbearers will be: The eight oldest grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Raymond Falk, Dr. William E. Anderson, Dr. James Cottingham, Steve Woerner, Dr. Sergio Avalos, Ben McDonald, Myron Grossman, Billy Johnson, and Jack Rice Turner.Services will be officiated by Rabbi Plost on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 4:00 P.M., at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas, followed by Internment in the Jewish section of Seaside Memorial Park.In keeping with religious tradition, it is requested that no flowers be sent.
